Our requirements are for highly competent engineers or software developers with a broad background in technology and excellent communication and "soft" skills. You must be able to demonstrate an ability to learn rapidly and to apply effectively new technical information, tools, and processes. You must be able to troubleshoot or debug technical problems, and analyze requirements to develop elegant designs that meet the needs at hand but without gold-plating. You must be enthusiastic about technology, software, elegant design, solving problems, working with customers, and adapting to frequent change.
In addition to those simple requirements, any of the following experience is of interest and value to us, though not having one or more is no reason not to apply. We will hire only people who learn well and fast, so if you don't already have experience in some of our usual areas, you'll learn on the job!
In no particular order:
- Experience with graphical user interface (GUI) design
- Experience with the open-source Python programming language
- Experience using C and assembly in embedded or realtime systems
- Experience administering Linux or BSD systems and networks
- Experience with XML and the like, including all the myriad W3C standards (CSS, HTML, SVG, etc)
- Experience developing systems built around SQL databases
- Experience implementing systems built around Internet standards (e.g. HTTP or SMTP)
- Experience using Javascript to develop web-based or AJAX user interfaces
- Experience developing asynchronous networking solutions, or any event-driven software
- Experience with machine control and automation, and related technologies such as RS-232/422/485 communications, fieldbuses such as CAN or MODBUS (and the bazillion other things that few are expert in but only the best can learn quickly enough that nobody knows the difference)
- Degree in Engineering or Computer Science
Sub-contracting with Engenuity
Engenuity is always interested in hearing from highly competent freelance developers and others whom we may call on for specialized or short-term services at need. From time to time we work with contractors to make available their unique experience to our own customers. Sometimes these arrangements and the work can be handled remotely, while in some cases the project, customer, or other context requires an on-site presence and more hands-on work with us.
